Job Description:

The Maintenance Turner is responsible for performing machining and turning operations on components used in rolling mill machinery. This includes the fabrication, repair, and reconditioning of shafts, rollers, sleeves, bushes, couplings, and other mechanical parts essential to plant maintenance and continuous production. The role requires working with precision tools and conventional lathe machines, ensuring all work meets operational and safety standards.

📌 Key Responsibilities:

• Operate manual/conventional lathe machines for machining of mechanical components used in rolling mills.

• Perform turning, facing, threading, taper turning, boring, and drilling operations.

• Fabricate or recondition worn-out machine parts like rollers, shafts, bushes, and couplings.

• Assist in preventive and breakdown maintenance activities by machining necessary parts.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings and sketches to determine machining dimensions.

• Use precision measuring instruments (micrometer, vernier caliper, dial gauge, etc.) to ensure dimensional accuracy.

• Support mechanical fitters in the assembly and dismantling of rolling mill components.

• Ensure proper maintenance and lubrication of workshop machines and tools.

• Maintain documentation of all machined parts and maintenance tasks performed.

• Follow all safety protocols and plant rules, including proper use of PPE.

⚙️ Required Skills & Qualifications:

• ITI Turner / Machinist (mandatory); Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (optional but preferred)

• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in maintenance turning, preferably in a rolling mill or heavy industry

• Strong hands-on experience with lathe machines and heavy component handling

• Good knowledge of fits and tolerances, surface finishes, and machining practices

• Familiarity with rolling mill components like backup rolls, work rolls, mill housings, gearboxes, etc.

• Ability to work under pressure during machine breakdowns and production stoppages

• Must be able to work in hot, dusty, and noisy industrial environments

• Willingness to work in rotating shifts, including nights and weekends
