Job Description:

• Oversee patient care: Ensure the department provides high-quality, evidence-based care that meets clinical standards and patient safety protocols.
• Establish clinical protocols: Develop and implement clinical protocols and practice standards for patient examination, investigation, and treatment.
• Monitor outcomes: Regularly review clinical outcomes, conduct audits, and implement changes based on performance data to improve patient satisfaction, reduce readmission rates, and lower mortality rates.
• Manage risk: Lead the investigation and follow-up of adverse events and complaints, ensuring that lessons are learned and new policies are implemented. 

• Strategic planning: Set departmental goals and objectives in line with the hospital's overall strategic plan.
• Budgeting and finance: Oversee the department's budget, manage expenditures, and contribute to business cases for new equipment or services.
• Human resources: Lead the recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluation of all departmental staff, including medical and non-medical personnel.
• Resource allocation: Ensure the efficient and effective allocation of resources, including staff, equipment, and consumables.
• Liaise with stakeholders: Serve as a communication link between department staff, hospital administration, governing boards, and other departments. 

• Staff development: Encourage and support continuous professional development for all staff members to enhance individual skills and careers.
• Mentoring: Train and mentor junior medical staff and new employees, ensuring proper orientation and integration into the department.
• Promote innovation: Encourage research activities and stay updated on the latest technological and medical advancements.
• Lead meetings: Conduct regular departmental meetings to discuss performance, resolve issues, and ensure effective communication. 

• A medical degree is often required, with a postgraduate degree in a relevant clinical specialty.
• A Master of Hospital Administration (MHA), Master of Public Health (MPH), or MBA in Healthcare Management is often preferred.
• Ten or more years of teaching and/or clinical experience, with significant time spent as a Professor or Associate Professor, may be required in academic medical centers. 

• Leadership: The ability to lead and motivate a multi-professional team.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with staff, patients, and management effectively.
• Critical thinking: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
• Financial acumen: An understanding of budgets, resource management, and cost control.
• Adaptability: The ability to be flexible and introduce changes in response to the evolving healthcare landscape.
• Teamwork: The capacity to foster a collaborative and respectful team environment.
