Job Description:
A "HEAD - ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY" (also known as an EHS Head or HSE Manager) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing an organization's Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a safe workplace. Key duties include creating policies, conducting audits, training staff, investigating incidents, managing budgets, and analyzing data to improve safety performance and environmental sustainability.
Core responsibilities

Policy and procedure development:Create, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and best practices.

Regulatory compliance:Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and national environmental and safety regulations.

Training and education:Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safety procedures, emergency protocols, and environmental responsibilities.

Audits and inspections:Conduct regular internal and external audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.

Incident investigation:Lead or participate in the investigation of accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.

Risk management:Identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement corrective and preventative actions.

Budget management:Prepare and manage the annual EHS budget, including costs for materials, training, and new programs.

Performance monitoring:Track EHS performance metrics, analyze trends, and provide reports to senior management on safety and environmental performance.

Environmental program management:Oversee initiatives to reduce environmental impact, such as waste management and recycling programs.

Liaison:Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and assist other departments with EHS-related issues.
Key skills and qualifications
- Strong knowledge of EHS laws and standards (e.g., ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001).
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with risk assessment and incident investigation.
- Ability to work with all levels of an organization, from senior management to front-line employees.
