Job Description:
A DCS Engineer for Boiler/Turbine is responsible for operating and optimizing power plant equipment using a Distributed Control System (DCS). Key duties include monitoring and controlling boiler and turbine operations through the DCS, ensuring safe and efficient performance by adjusting parameters like pressure and temperature, and executing start-up and shutdown procedures. The role also involves troubleshooting issues, performing preventive maintenance, responding to alarms, and maintaining operational logs.
Key responsibilities
- Operation and control: Use the DCS to monitor and control boiler and turbine operations, adjusting parameters such as pressure, temperature, and fuel flow for optimal performance.
- Safety compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and emergency procedures, especially during critical events like blackouts, and participate in boiler/turbine light-up and shutdown procedures.
- Troubleshooting: Respond to DCS alarms and troubleshoot malfunctions in both the boiler and turbine systems.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on control systems, instrumentation, and associated equipment.
- Monitoring and logging: Monitor critical operational parameters and maintain accurate records and operational logbooks.
- Coordination: Collaborate with other plant personnel and teams, including maintenance and operators, to ensure smooth operation.
Required skills and qualifications
- Technical knowledge: Sound knowledge of boiler and turbine operation, including maintenance and optimization.
- DCS expertise: Experience with DCS and possibly PLC/SCADA systems.
- Instrumentation: Familiarity with instruments for monitoring pressure, temperature, level, and flow.
- Regulations: Knowledge of relevant regulations, such as Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR).
- Emergency handling: Ability to handle emergency situations, load through conditions, and perform actions during plant upsets.
- Education: Typically requires a Diploma or B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Prior experience in power plant operations, particularly with 25 MW and above turbines and specific boiler types (e.g., CFBC, AFBC), is often required.
