Job Description:
An Engineer DCS/Shift Incharge is responsible for supervising plant operations during a shift, ensuring safe and efficient production by monitoring and controlling the Distributed Control System (DCS). Key duties include responding to alarms, maintaining process parameters within limits, troubleshooting issues, and preparing shift reports. The role requires a technical background, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage a team and collaborate with other departments. 
 
Key responsibilities
  • Operations monitoring: Operate and monitor plant processes via the DCS to ensure smooth and efficient production.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting: Respond promptly to alarms, troubleshoot DCS-related issues, and take corrective actions to resolve problems during the shift.
  • Safety and compliance: Adhere to all safety standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and company policies, including managing emergency situations and plant startups/shutdowns.
  • Data and reporting: Maintain logbooks, record critical parameters, and prepare daily shift reports, production summaries, and handover notes.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with field operators, maintenance, and other departments for smooth shift handover and issue resolution.
  • Process optimization: Analyze process trends, identify abnormalities, and implement solutions to improve process efficiency and product quality. 
 
Required qualifications and skills
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Control Systems Engineering is often required.
  • Experience: Several years of experience in operating and troubleshooting DCS systems in a manufacturing or plant environment.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in DCS software, SCADA systems, HMI, and control system design.
  • Analytical skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix issues.
  • Soft skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities to manage a team and collaborate with other departments.
