Job Description:
A Turbine Field Operator's job description includes operating and monitoring turbine systems for optimal performance, performing routine maintenance and repairs, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations. They are responsible for adjusting controls, inspecting equipment, maintaining detailed records, and collaborating with other teams to ensure the safe and efficient operation of power generation equipment like steam, gas, or wind turbines.
Key Responsibilities
- Turbine Operation: Start up, shut down, and monitor turbine systems by adjusting controls to regulate speed, pressure, and temperature.
- Monitoring and Inspection: Regularly check instruments and gauges, conduct routine inspections, and respond to alarms to identify and address any malfunctions.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, lubricate equipment, and conduct minor repairs on components to ensure reliability. They also coordinate with maintenance teams for larger overhauls.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, use personal protective equipment, and ensure operations comply with environmental regulations.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot operational problems to identify root causes and take corrective actions.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate logs and records of equipment performance, operational parameters, and maintenance activities, and prepare reports.
- Collaboration: Communicate with other plant personnel and systems operators to coordinate activities and ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong understanding of turbine systems, including steam, gas, and wind turbines.
- Proficiency with monitoring and control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Physical stamina for tasks that may involve heavy lifting and work in potentially straining positions.
- A strong math and science background is generally preferred for these technical roles.
