A 2nd Class Boiler Operator's job description includes operating, monitoring, and maintaining low- to medium-pressure boilers to ensure continuous steam production. Key responsibilities
- Boiler operation: Safely operate and control boilers, monitor pressure, temperature, and water levels, and adjust fuel supply to maintain optimal conditions.
- Routine maintenance: Perform regular inspections, cleaning, and preventive maintenance on boiler components and related equipment.
- Safety and compliance: Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations, operational guidelines, and environmental standards. Report any unsafe acts or conditions promptly.
- Troubleshooting and repairs: Identify and troubleshoot minor problems. Report major issues to the maintenance team, and assist with repairs or replacements as needed.
- Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of boiler operations, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
- Water quality: Conduct water quality tests and adjust chemical treatments as necessary.
- Coordination: Work closely with senior operators, engineers, and other maintenance teams to optimize efficiency and coordinate activities.
Required qualifications
- Certification as a 2nd Class Boiler Operator is a primary requirement.
- 2-4 years of experience in boiler operation is often required.
- Familiarity with boiler and utility system operations is necessary.
- Experience with specific controls, such as gas-fired boilers and PLC/HMI systems, may be specified by employers.
