Core responsibilities
- Metal cutting: Cut metal to required shapes and sizes by heating it and using a jet of oxygen to burn it away.
- Equipment operation: Set up, operate, and maintain gas cutting equipment, including oxy-acetylene or oxy-fuel torches, hoses, and regulators.
- Material preparation: Examine, mark, and prepare metal parts for welding, fitting, or scrap processing. This can include preheating metal and cleaning surfaces.
- Safety compliance: Follow strict safety procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring the work area is clear of flammable materials.
