Core Responsibilities
- Tack Welding: Create short, temporary welds to hold metal components in place for final welding, ensuring correct alignment and fit-up.
- Fabrication and Assembly: Weld, cut, heat, and bend metal parts to assemble and repair structures and equipment.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and diagrams to plan and execute welding operations.
- Preparation and Finishing: Clean and prepare metal surfaces by grinding or other methods. Remove rough spots and other imperfections.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished work for accuracy, alignment, and conformity to specifications using measuring tools and templates.
- Material Handling: Position and secure large workpieces, often using a crane or hoist.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency with various welding equipment (e.g., gas, arc, spot-welding guns).
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, straightedge).
- Experience with reading blueprints, specifications, and diagrams.
- Physical strength to lift and move materials.
- Familiarity with safety practices and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of metric and imperial measurement systems.
- May require a brake press experience.
Work Environment
- May require working at heights on scaffolds or ladders.
- Involves handling heavy equipment and materials.
- Requires working with welding and cutting equipment that generates heat and sparks.
