Job Description:
A Yard Manager oversees daily operations, staff, and equipment in storage, construction, or distribution facilities to ensure efficiency and safety. Key responsibilities include supervising personnel, managing inventory, maintaining equipment, enforcing safety protocols, and coordinating logistics. The role typically requires 3-5 years experience, organizational skills, and proficiency in basic computer software.
Core Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Directs daily activities, including loading/unloading, material storage, and vehicle movement.
- Safety Compliance: Implements and enforces safety protocols to maintain a secure environment.
- Inventory & Logistics: Manages stock, conducts regular counts, and coordinates with dispatch/transport teams.
- Staff Supervision: Hires, trains, and assigns tasks to yard personnel.
- Equipment Maintenance: Inspects, repairs, and maintains tools and machinery.
- Administrative Duties: Maintains records, reports on activities, and manages budget/expenses.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Generally 3–5 years in a similar role.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree is often preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of safety regulations.
- Abilities: Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
- Physical Ability: Often requires the ability to lift 75 pounds or more.
