Job Description:
A Head of HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery) manages the maintenance, operation, and efficiency of large mining/construction equipment, overseeing teams, planning resources, ensuring safety, controlling costs, and implementing strategies for asset reliability, including routine checks, major overhauls, and lifecycle management, to support production targets. Key duties involve scheduling maintenance, diagnosing issues, managing spare parts, liaising with OEMs, and fostering continuous improvement in uptime and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Planning & Execution: Develop and implement maintenance schedules (preventive, predictive, breakdown) for the entire HEMM fleet.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor mechanics and technicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and high standards.
- ** Asset Management**: Ensure equipment availability, reliability, and longevity through lifecycle strategies, root cause failure analysis, and component replacement planning.
- ** Safety & Compliance**: Enforce strict health, safety, and environmental regulations and conduct regular safety audits.
- ** Cost Control**: Manage budgets, optimize resource utilization, and control maintenance costs.
- ** Operations Support**: Coordinate with operations to minimize downtime and meet production goals.
- ** Documentation & Reporting**: Maintain accurate records, logs, and performance reports.
- ** Technical Expertise**: Diagnose complex faults, liaise with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for technical support, and manage warranties.
Core Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience: Extensive experience (often 15+ years) in heavy equipment maintenance, particularly HEMM in mining/heavy industry.
- ** Technical Skills**: Deep knowledge of heavy equipment systems (fuel, brakes, electrical, transmission) and diagnostic skills.
- ** Soft Skills**: Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

- To ensure maximum fleet availability and operational efficiency while controlling costs and upholding the highest safety standards, acting as a crucial link between equipment performance and production targets.
