Role - Engineer Estimator - Oil, Gas and Chemical

Location: Mumbai

Job Type: Both contractual or permanent role (If on contract the payroll company will be Talisman)

Job Overview: We are seeking Engineers with prior experience in estimating, in the Oil, Gas & Chemical (OGC) industry. A successful candidate should possess strong skills in costing, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational abilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities are essential, along with attention to detail, teamwork, and the capability to work independently. A high level of proficiency in computer applications, interpersonal skills, and customer service aptitude are crucial.

Responsibilities and Duties

·Review project specifications, blueprints, and related documentation to assess the project scope and accurately determine resource requirements.

·Develop factored and bottoms-up FEL 1-3 (conceptual, feasibility, and budget authorization) estimates for Oil, Gas, and Chemical projects (e.g., refineries, petrochemical plants, pipelines).

·Review of RFP and engineering documents for gaps and overlaps in the scope of work.

·Perform material takeoffs to accurately quantify materials and components from engineering drawings. Estimate quantities for piping, equipment, civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines using direct takeoffs from drawings/maps.

·Develop accurate cost estimates for Oil, Gas, and Chemical projects by assessing materials, labor, equipment, and other key cost factors as per AACEi Cost Estimate Classifications.

·Responsible for compliance with estimating methodology ensuring quality estimates are produced.

·Work independently or with the Lead Estimator of Burns & McDonnell US office.

·Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers, to gather critical information and ensure accurate, comprehensive cost estimations.

·Conduct comprehensive cost analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and alternative solutions, ensuring quality and project specifications are not compromised.

·Prepare detailed bid proposals, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and full compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

·Responsible for updating cost history and database management.

·Assess potential risks associated with projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure and ensure successful project outcomes.

·Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and technological advancements to enhance estimating techniques and processes.

·Engage in regular team meetings with Burns & McDonnell’s U.S. offices to understand project scope, execute estimation tasks, and provide status updates. Communicate effectively to address any project concerns and ensure alignment with project goals.

 

Qualifications

·Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

·5 to 15 years of experience in OGC estimation, tendering, or proposals. Experience in refinery, petrochemical, or similar process industry projects is preferred.

·Strong understanding of oil, gas, and chemical processes, including equipment, piping systems, and plant construction.

·Awareness of construction practices, codes, and regulations related to the Oil, Gas, and Chemical industry.

·Familiarity with key terms in Engineering, Material, Equipment, Labor, Permits, and Construction work.

·Understanding of engineering, procurement, contracts, and construction work processes.

·Advanced understanding of contract cost mechanisms, including Fixed and Variable costs, and their application in project estimation. Ability to analyze cost structures, assess cost risks, and recommend strategies for managing budget variations throughout the project lifecycle.

·Proficient in advanced Excel. Experience with other estimating software (InEight & ASPEN) is a plus.

·A strong desire to continuously learn and develop estimation skills across diverse industries.

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·Willingness to work permanently in the 2nd shift (12:30 PM to 9:00 PM) to align with U.S. office hours and ensure effective collaboration.
