Job Description:
An Electrical Engineer in a steel manufacturing company oversees the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage systems, electric arc furnaces (EAF), motors, and automation controls (PLC/SCADA) in units like SMS or Rolling Mills. They ensure operational safety, minimize downtime, and improve energy efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance on heavy-duty electrical equipment, including transformers, motors, switchgears, and AC/DC drives.
- Operational Support: Monitor and manage electrical systems in the Steel Melt Shop (SMS), Continuous Casting Machine (CCM), and Rolling Mills to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Automation & Control: Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems, SCADA, and instrumentation devices.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all electrical systems comply with industrial safety regulations, electrical codes, and environmental standards.
- Projects & Upgrades: Install new machinery and upgrade existing electrical systems, using software like AutoCAD for layout design.
- Troubleshooting & Improvement: Investigate root causes of electrical failures and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability.
- Spare Parts Management: Manage inventory of critical electrical components and handle procurement.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Previous experience (often 3-10+ years) in steel plants, rolling mills, or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in high-voltage engineering, motor controls, PLC programming, and electrical schematics.
- Software Skills: AutoCAD, MATLAB, and MS Office Suite.
- Core Competencies: Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and leadership skills for supervising maintenance teams.

- Heavy industrial environment (hot, noisy, and high-pressure).
- Requires flexible hours for handling emergency breakdown repairs and scheduled maintenance shutdowns.
