Job Description:
A Jr. Chemist in a ferro alloy plant tests raw materials (ores, coal, limestone) and finished products (silicomanganese, ferrochrome) for chemical composition, ensures quality control, calibrates instruments (like XRF), maintains lab records, and reports findings to production, focusing on adherence to safety and quality standards. Key duties involve sampling, wet/instrumental analysis, data reporting, and laboratory upkeep for materials used in the steel industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sampling & Testing: Collect and analyze samples of raw materials (manganese ore, coal, limestone, etc.) and final products.
- Quality Control: Perform wet analysis and use instruments (XRF, GC, HPLC) to check chemical composition (Mn, Si, Fe, Al2O3, P, S) against specifications.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare daily/monthly reports, maintain accurate lab records, and document test results.
- Instrument Management: Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments.
- Process Support: Collaborate with production to resolve quality issues and ensure process consistency.
- Safety & Housekeeping: Adhere to lab safety protocols, manage chemical stocks, and ensure a clean workspace (5S implementation).
Typical Materials Analyzed:
- Raw Materials: Manganese Ore, Coal, Coke, Limestone, Dolomite, Bauxite.
- Finished Products: Silico Manganese, Ferro Manganese, Ferro Chrome, Ferro Silicon.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
- Understanding of ferroalloys and their elemental composition.
- Proficiency in wet chemical analysis and operating analytical instruments.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and understand MIS.
- Strong focus on safety and quality compliance.
