Job Description:
A Conveyor Belt Operator controls systems that move materials, monitoring gauges, clearing jams with hand tools, adjusting speeds, and performing basic maintenance like oiling and cleaning to ensure smooth, continuous flow, while also recording production data and reporting malfunctions to supervisors, emphasizing safety and physical fitness.
Key Responsibilities
- Operation: Start/stop conveyors, adjust speeds, route materials using levers, chutes, and gates, and transfer items between belts.
- Monitoring: Watch gauges, dials, and lights to maintain specified operating levels and detect equipment issues.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Clear jams, remove damaged items, oil parts, tighten joints, and perform basic repairs (like splicing).
- Data & Reporting: Record production data (weights, quantities, downtime), document issues, and communicate with supervisors and other workers.
- Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, perform pre-operational checks, and ensure a clean work area.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Physical Fitness: Ability to climb, lift, and handle materials.
- Technical Skills: Understanding of mechanical/electrical systems, basic troubleshooting, and using hand/power tools.
- Attention to Detail: Keen observation for malfunctions and quality control.
- Communication: Effectively report issues and coordinate with teams.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve operating errors quickly.
- Education: Often requires basic education (like Class 10) and potentially vocational training (NSQF Level 3) for specialized roles.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, often involving physical activity in manufacturing, mining, or distribution settings.
