Job Description:
A Real Estate Surveyor defines property boundaries, assesses land features, and creates maps for legal, development, and sales purposes, involving field measurements with GPS/Total Stations, research into land records, data analysis using CAD/GIS software, and preparing reports/plats for clients, architects, and government agencies, ensuring compliance with regulations for property transactions and construction projects.
- Boundary & Feature Mapping: Measure and mark property lines, contours, and physical features (buildings, roads) using specialized equipment.
- Research: Search legal records, titles, and historical data to understand property history and boundaries.
- Data Analysis: Analyze survey data and interpret legal descriptions using CAD and GIS software.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed maps, plots, legal descriptions, and reports for deeds, leases, and development plans.
- Collaboration: Work with architects, engineers, construction managers, and clients on development projects.
- Compliance: Ensure all work meets surveying standards, zoning laws, and building codes.
- Legal Support: May provide expert testimony in court regarding survey work.
- Technical Skills: GPS, GIS, CAD software, surveying instruments (Total Stations).
- Analytical Skills: Strong math, problem-solving, and data interpretation.
- Soft Skills: Attention to detail, communication, leadership, organization, client interaction.
- Mix of office work (research, mapping) and fieldwork (on-site measurements).
- Involves travel to various sites, working outdoors, and potentially hazardous conditions (vehicles, heights).
