Job Description:
A Head of Purchase for a Sponge Iron (SID) & Power Plant manages strategic procurement of raw materials (like coal/iron ore), capital goods, and services, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and supply chain resilience for continuous plant operation, involving vendor management, contract negotiation, risk mitigation, and team leadership, adhering to strict quality/safety standards for power generation and heavy industrial processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement procurement strategies for materials, spares, and services, aligning with plant efficiency goals (power generation, SMS, DRI operations).
- Sourcing & Procurement: Oversee the end-to-end purchase-to-pay cycle, focusing on strategic sourcing, tendering, cost estimation, and ensuring quality compliance (e.g., BIS, ASTM/ASME).
- Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, negotiate with, and manage global/local suppliers, establishing strong relationships and ensuring performance.
- Cost Optimization: Drive cost savings through zero-base costing, market analysis, and negotiation for components, fuel (coal), and capital equipment (Capex).
- Risk Management: Mitigate supply chain risks, manage compliance (legal/regulatory), and ensure timely delivery of critical items for smooth plant operations.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing procurement team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Quality, Operations (PPC, Maintenance), Finance, and Legal to meet diverse procurement needs.
- Inventory & Logistics: Manage stock levels and oversee logistics, including import/export documentation and freight forwarding.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Expertise in sourcing for heavy industries (power, steel).
- Knowledge of market trends, materials (coal, spares), and commercial laws.
- Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and procurement software.
- Understanding of power plant operations, maintenance, and safety standards.
