Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of a Sinter Plant OPERATION oversees all plant operations, focusing on production targets, cost efficiency, quality control, and safety, managing teams, budgets, maintenance (predictive/preventive), raw material coordination, and ensuring compliance to produce optimal sinter for blast furnaces, involving strategic planning, process optimization (like burdening & thermal regimes), and stakeholder alignment for consistent output.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Drive overall plant performance, ensuring production targets and efficiency are met.
- Strategic Planning: Develop annual production plans, budgets, and maintenance schedules, coordinating with procurement and other departments (PPC, SMS).
- Process Optimization: Maintain stable thermal regimes, proper burden distribution, and efficient equipment operation (conveyors, sintering machines).
- Quality Control: Implement and oversee quality plans to ensure sinter meets required specifications.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Plan and execute shutdown maintenance, ensuring equipment reliability and minimal downtime.
- Cost & Efficiency: Identify and implement projects for cost savings and productivity improvements (e.g., 5S, Kaizen).
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to all Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) standards and statutory regulations.
- Team Leadership: Manage, motivate, and develop plant personnel, including vendors and internal teams.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with raw material suppliers, production planning, and downstream units (Blast Furnace).
Key Skills & Knowledge
- Deep understanding of the sintering process, raw materials (iron ore, fluxes, coke), and equipment.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of maintenance strategies (predictive, preventive).
- Familiarity with quality control and environmental compliance standards.
Reporting & Coordination
- Coordinates with Raw Material Procurement, PPC (Production Planning & Control), and SMS (Steel Melting Shop).
- Reports to higher management for budget and plan approvals.
