Job Description:
A Furnace Helper supports skilled operators in industrial or HVAC settings by performing physical tasks like loading materials, cleaning equipment, moving tools, and assisting with repairs/maintenance, ensuring safety and efficiency in furnace operations, from charging materials and monitoring gauges in steel mills to supporting HVAC installs and repairs, requiring physical stamina, ability to follow instructions, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Handling: Loading raw materials (scrap, ore, coke) into furnaces using hoists, moving parts, and transporting tools/equipment.
- Operational Support: Assisting operators with tasks like sealing furnaces, skimming slag, manipulating controls, and tilting furnaces for pouring.
- Maintenance & Cleaning: Cleaning furnaces, work areas, and equipment (scrapers, hoses, solvents), and helping with basic maintenance under supervision.
- Safety & Housekeeping: Following all safety protocols, wearing PPE, keeping the work area organized, and communicating hazards.
- Technical Assistance: Transporting parts, assisting with assembly/disassembly, cutting ductwork (HVAC), and helping troubleshoot issues.

- Physical: Stamina, manual dexterity, ability to work in demanding environments.
- Technical: Basic understanding of furnace systems, ability to read simple instructions/blueprints, mechanical aptitude.
