Job Description:
The role of a General Manager (GM) for Production in Transmission Line Trunk/Tower Manufacturing involves comprehensive leadership over all manufacturing operations to ensure products meet stringent quality standards (like IS/IEC), are produced efficiently, within budget, and delivered on time. This person drives continuous improvement and manages the entire production lifecycle, from raw material to finished goods dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Planning & Control: Develop and implement robust production schedules, balance customer orders, optimize capacity utilization, and minimize downtime.
- Quality Assurance & Control: Ensure strict compliance with industry standards (e.g., IS, IEC, PGCIL requirements). Establish rigorous QC checkpoints, reduce defects, and manage corrective actions with the Quality Control (QC) team.
- Process Optimization & Efficiency: Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other best practices to enhance productivity, optimize workflows, and reduce waste (e.g., 5S, TPM).
- Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination: Oversee material flow, manage raw material stock levels, and coordinate with procurement and logistics to ensure material readiness and on-time delivery.
- Team Leadership & Workforce Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team across multiple production lines. Ensure a safe work environment, resolve labor issues, and set performance metrics.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of relevant processes such as steel fabrication, welding procedures, galvanizing, and assembly, specific to transmission line products like towers, clamps, and insulators.
- Budgeting & Cost Control: Prepare and manage the production budget, control costs, and identify initiatives to improve profitability.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce stringent EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) protocols and ensure all operations comply with relevant regulations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Typically 10+ years of experience in a production or manufacturing setting, with significant experience in a managerial or leadership role, preferably within the transmission line, tower, or heavy steel fabrication industry.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is often required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP software (like SAP), production management systems, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication abilities are essential for coordinating with various departments and motivating teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
