Job Description:
A CNC Machine Operator sets up, operates, and maintains computer-controlled machines (mills, lathes, routers) to produce precision parts based on blueprints. They are responsible for loading raw materials, adjusting machine settings, inspecting finished products for quality, and adhering to strict safety protocols.
Core Responsibilities
- Setup and Operation: Prepare machinery for production, including tool installation,, calibrating equipment, and loading programs.
- Production & Inspection: Run machines, monitor production to ensure parts meet technical specifications (using calipers, micrometers), and make necessary tool offsets or geometry adjustments.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, such as cleaning machines, checking coolant/oil levels, and replacing tools.
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Safety and Documentation: Follow all safety procedures, maintain a clean workspace, and document production logs.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of CNC machinery, CAM software, and measuring instruments.
- Math Skills: Proficient in shop math to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical issues.
- Attention to Detail: High precision to meet tight tolerances.
Typical Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Previous experience in manufacturing or CNC operation is often required.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for long periods.
