Job Description:
The Head Project - Power Plant will lead the conceptualization, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of new or expanding captive power plant projects. They will ensure that the projects are completed within budget and on schedule while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. The role requires bridging the gap between contractors, consultants, and the internal steel manufacturing operations team.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Strategy & Execution: Lead end-to-end project management, including defining scope, setting timelines, and finalizing technical specifications for power plant setups.
- Budgeting & Cost Control: Develop, manage, and control the project budget, including cost forecasting, monitoring cash flow, and ensuring optimal resource allocation.
- Procurement & Vendor Management: Manage EPC contracts, negotiate with contractors and vendors, and supervise the procurement of critical spares and equipment.
- Site Management & Safety: Oversee construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to safety (HSE), environmental regulations, and IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) norms.
- Coordination & Reporting: Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders (manufacturing, finance, technical teams) and external agencies (consultants, contractors). Provide regular, detailed project progress reports to senior management.
- Commissioning & Handover: Lead the testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases of the power plant, ensuring a smooth transition from project construction to operations (O&M).
- Risk Management: Identify, analyze, and mitigate potential project bottlenecks, such as design changes, material delays, or technical issues.
Required Candidate Profile (Experience & Skills)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 15–25 years of experience in power plant project management, with at least 5–7 years in a leadership role.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in setting up Captive Power Plants (CFBC, AFBC, WHRB boilers) within an Integrated Steel Plant or large-scale heavy industry.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of power plant systems (boilers, turbines, generators, balance of plant) and proficiency in project management tools (Primavera, MS Project).
- Leadership: Strong ability to manage cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and laborers.
- Certifications: BOE (Boiler Operations Engineer) certification is highly desirable.

- Project completion within approved budget (CAPEX).
- Adherence to project schedule (on-time commissioning).
- Zero Accident Rate (Safety Performance).
- Quality compliance and successful performance testing.
Working Conditions
- This is a demanding, high-responsibility role often located at the project site (steel plant location).
- Involves close coordination with 24/7 industrial operations.
