Job Description:
The Head of CCM will oversee the operational, technical, and maintenance aspects of the Continuous Casting Machine department within the Steel Melting Shop (SMS). The role requires managing the casting sequence, optimizing billet yield, reducing defect rates, and leading the team to meet daily/monthly production plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily CCM operations to ensure production targets (e.g., tonnage of 550/550D/CRS steel) are met efficiently.
- Operational Excellence: Optimize process parameters for casting, including ladle turret, tundish management, and strand casting speed, to improve productivity.
- Quality Control: Ensure the produced billets/slabs conform to chemical and metallurgical standards by collaborating with the Quality Assurance team to minimize defects and rejections.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of the CCM, including hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components, to minimize downtime.
- Cost Optimization: Monitor and reduce operational costs related to consumables, refractory, mold usage, and energy consumption, while maximizing billet yield.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety (OHSAS/ISO) standards, statutory regulations, and environmental norms in the shop floor.
- Team Leadership: Lead, train, and manage a team of engineers, supervisors, and operators, ensuring skill development and high performance.
- Reporting & Strategy: Prepare MIS reports on production, yield, and maintenance, and contribute to modernization or expansion projects.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.Tech/BE or Diploma in Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: 10 to 20 years of experience in steel manufacturing, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role (AGM/DGM/Head) specifically in CCM operations.
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in CCM technology (billet/slab casting), SMS processes (Induction Furnace, LRF, EAF), and metallurgical understanding.
Key Competencies
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities in high-pressure environments.
- Knowledge of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
