Job Description:
A Senior Accountant in a fabrication or manufacturing plant is a critical, hands-on role responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, managing cost accounting, and overseeing regulatory compliance at the plant level. This position requires a blend of general accounting, deep cost analysis, inventory management, and the ability to collaborate with production, supply chain, and engineering teams. 
 
 
Core Responsibilities
  • Cost Accounting & Inventory Management: Monitor production costs, WIP (Work in Progress), scrap rates, and material consumption to calculate accurate inventory valuation. Perform standard cost updates for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Month-End & Year-End Closing: Lead the month-end closing process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and delivering accurate financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet) to the corporate office.
  • Variance Analysis: Investigate material price variances (PPV), labor, and overhead absorption variances to explain differences between actual and planned performance.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee vendor payments, 3-way matching (PO, Goods Receipt, Invoice), and customer invoicing.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in preparing annual plant budgets and quarterly forecasts, analyzing deviations.
  • Statutory Compliance: Ensure compliance with GST, TDS, tax audits, and other local regulations.
  • Operational Reporting: Develop and maintain daily/weekly MIS reports on plant KPIs (e.g., labor hours, production capacity utilization).
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with internal and external auditors for statutory and tax audits.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff. 
     
 
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (b.com). CA (Inter) or CMA is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 10-15 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • ERP Knowledge: Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as Tally Prime, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Navision.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities. 
     
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Accuracy of Inventory and COGS.
  • Timeliness of month-end closing.
  • Variance reduction (Scrap, Material, Labour).
