Job Description:
An Assistant Shift Incharge in a steel manufacturing company (SMS, DRI, or Rolling Mill) supervises production operations, personnel, and safety protocols during a specific shift to meet production, quality, and maintenance targets. Key duties include monitoring furnace/process parameters, troubleshooting breakdowns, optimizing machine uptime, managing raw material consumption, and ensuring compliance with safety standards (PPE, SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Process Control: Oversee daily shift production, including raw material feeding, mixing, and processing, to meet targets.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, TPM) and ensure all operators use proper PPE.
- Operation Maintenance: Monitor equipment performance, conduct troubleshooting, and coordinate with the maintenance team to minimize downtime for furnaces, casting machines, or rolling mills.
- Quality Control: Monitor product parameters, conduct quality checks, and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and manage operators and helpers, including shift scheduling and performance management.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed shift reports, including production data, maintenance records, and quality metrics.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Previous experience in a steel plant (SMS, DRI, or Rolling Mill) is generally required.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with Induction Furnaces, Continuous Casting Machines (CCM), or Reheating Furnaces.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, decision-making, and troubleshooting abilities.
