Job Description:
A Purchase Manager for a Rolling Mill manages the end-to-end procurement of raw materials (billets/scrap), spares, mechanical/electrical components, and consumables. Key responsibilities include negotiating with suppliers, optimizing costs, maintaining inventory levels through ERP systems, and ensuring timely, quality deliveries. Candidates typically need 5+ years of relevant steel industry experience. 
 
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Procurement Strategy: Develop, implement, and oversee purchasing strategies to optimize costs, quality, and supply chain efficiency.
  • Material Procurement: Procure specialized steel mill items, including Mill Guides, Hydraulics/Power packs, Lubricants, and Raw Materials (Steel Scrap/Billets).
  • Supplier Management: Research, evaluate, and onboard reliable vendors, maintaining strong relationships, and conducting performance audits.
  • Negotiation & Contracting: Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and payment schedules with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Inventory Control: Utilize Material Resource Planning (MRP) to manage inventory levels, ensuring no production shortages while avoiding excessive inventory.
  • Logistics Coordination: Oversee the logistics of incoming goods, including coordinating with freight forwarders and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Documentation: Process purchase orders, verify supplier invoices, and maintain records in ERP systems. 
 
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in procurement, specifically within a steel manufacturing or rolling mill environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (such as SAP or similar), as shown in LinkedIn India.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of steel industry components, raw materials, and technical spares.
  • Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
