Job Description:
A Deputy Manager - Quality in a chains manufacturing company (such as industrial, automotive, or conveyor chains) is responsible for upholding stringent quality standards for raw materials, in-process production, and finished products. The role focuses on preventing defects, implementing QMS (IATF 16949/ISO), and driving continuous improvement (Kaizen/Six Sigma).
Core Responsibilities:
- Supplier Quality Management (Incoming Inspection): Evaluate supplier performance, conduct audits (IATF 16949), and ensure incoming raw materials (steel, alloying elements) meet specifications.
- In-Process Quality Control (IPQC): Monitor production lines, including metal forging, machining, heat treatment, and chain assembly, to ensure compliance with control plans.
- Finished Goods Inspection: Perform final inspection on finished chains for tensile strength, hardness, fatigue resistance, and dimensional accuracy.
- Root Cause Analysis & CAPA: Lead investigations into customer complaints and internal defects using tools like 8D, Fishbone Diagram, FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), and SPC (Statistical Process Control).
- QMS Documentation & Audits: Maintain, update, and ensure adherence to ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standards and prepare documents for internal/external audits.
- Team Leadership: Guide quality engineers, inspectors, and lab personnel in testing and defect reduction techniques.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
- Experience: 5-10+ years in quality assurance/control, preferably in heavy engineering or automotive manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of heat treatment, metallurgical testing, dimensional metrology (vernier, micrometer, gauges), and GD&T.
- Systems Knowledge: Proficiency in SAP and Minitab (for statistical data analysis).
- Certifications: CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or ISO/IATF auditor certification is a plus.
Key Metrics for Success:
- Reduction in Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Improvement in First Pass Yield (FPY).
- Reduction in customer complaints and PPM (Parts Per Million) levels.
