Transport Manager – Role Overview

The Transport Manager is responsible for the overall management of transportation, garage, and mechanical operations. This role ensures the safe movement, maintenance, and availability of a diverse fleet, including hi-loaders and two-wheelers, to provide uninterrupted operational support in line with aviation, safety, and ISO standards.

Key Responsibilities

Transport & Operations Management

  • Plan, direct, and oversee all transportation-related operations within the organization.

  • Allocate duties to supervisors and drivers in line with flight schedules and operational requirements.

  • Coordinate with the Operations Department for scheduled, non-scheduled, VIP, and outdoor catering operations, ensuring timely deployment of vehicles and drivers.

  • Prepare and manage monthly duty rosters for supervisors and drivers, including overtime monitoring and optimization.

  • Monitor daily overtime and implement measures to control excess overtime and absenteeism.

  • Oversee logistics planning and vehicle route planning to ensure operational efficiency and on-time performance.

Fleet, Garage & Mechanical Management

  • Oversee the movement, upkeep, and availability of:

    • 45 Hi-Loaders

    • 20 Two-Wheelers

  • Manage the Garage and Mechanical Department, ensuring preventive and corrective maintenance of all vehicles.

  • Ensure daily inspections and roadworthiness of fleet vehicles.

  • Ensure breakdown vehicles are sent to workshops promptly and returned fit for smooth operations.

  • Issue and monitor job orders for all repairs and maintain detailed maintenance records.

  • Ensure deep cleaning and hygiene standards of vehicles are maintained and documented as per ISO standards.

Driver & Compliance Management

  • Maintain complete and up-to-date records of drivers’ documents, including license numbers, ADP details, and validity.

  • Ensure timely renewal of driver licenses and ADPs.

  • Ensure all drivers comply with:

    • Company SOPs

    • Airline SOPs

    • AVSEC driving requirements

    • Ramp safety and road safety regulations

  • Conduct and document regular driver training on ramp safety, hi-loader alignment and de-alignment, and safe driving practices.

Vendor Development & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Lead vendor development initiatives for vehicle maintenance, spare parts, and related services.

  • Liaise with vendors, service partners, and workshops to ensure quality upkeep of vehicles.

  • Conduct regular reviews and consultations with vendors and partners, providing feedback on service quality, turnaround time, and compliance.

  • Develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to support efficient transport operations.

Documentation, Audits & Safety

  • Maintain and monitor all transport, garage, and maintenance registers in line with ISO and audit standards.

  • Review and initial driver duty allocation sheets, shift reports, maintenance logs, and cleaning registers.

  • Promote safe work practices by conducting safety audits and attending company safety meetings.

Job Specifications / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Management, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience as a Transport Manager or Fleet Manager in a similar industry, preferably aviation, catering, or logistics.

  • Proven experience managing large fleets and mechanical/garage operations.

  • Strong understanding of transportation regulations, safety standards, and unionized work environments.

  • Experience in vendor development and contract management.

  • Proficiency in transport management systems, fleet software, and logistics planning tools.

  • Strong analytical, leadership, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a time-critical environment.

  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
