Job Description:
A Melter in a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) operates induction furnaces or EAFs, overseeing the melting, alloying, and tapping of steel to meet quality standards. They manage raw materials, monitor temperatures, and ensure safety, typically requiring 5+ years of experience in furnace operation, lining, and sintering.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Furnace Operation: Operate and control Induction Furnaces/EAF to melt scrap metal and raw materials efficiently.
- Quality Control: Monitor the chemical composition, temperature, and quality of molten steel during the melting process.
- Charging and Tapping: Supervise the charging of raw materials and coordinate with crane operators for tapping molten metal into ladles.
- Refractory Maintenance: Perform or oversee furnace lining maintenance and sintering to prevent equipment failure.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to SMS safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot operational issues and identify process improvements for productivity.
Key Requirements:
- Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in a Steel Melting Shop.
- Education: Diploma in Mechanical/Metallurgy or ITI qualification.
- Skills: Strong understanding of steelmaking, furnace operation, and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities - Shift Incharge (Related):
- Manpower Management: Lead a team of operators and technicians during the shift.
- Production Planning: Ensure targets are met for output, cost, and efficiency.
- Process Reporting: Maintain accurate production records, process parameters, and operational reports.
