Job Description:
A Chemist (SID/Raw Material) in a steel manufacturing company analyzes raw materials (iron ore, coal, coke, limestone) and finished products (sponge iron, pig iron, slag) using wet chemical methods and instrumentation like XRF/Spectrometers to ensure quality standards. They manage laboratory operations, calibrate instruments, and report findings to production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Raw Material Testing: Perform chemical analysis on Iron Ore, Coal, Coke, Dolomite, and Manganese Ore to verify quality specifications.
- In-Process & Finished Product Analysis: Analyze molten metal, sponge iron, slag, and ferroalloys to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Instrument Operation: Operate and maintain analytical equipment including XRF Spectrometers, Carbon & Sulfur Analyzers (e.g., Leco CS200), Proximate Analyzers, and spectrometers.
- Physical Analysis: Conduct physical tests such as sieve analysis, tumbler index, RI, RDI, and shatter tests.
- Lab Management: Prepare reagents and solutions, calibrate equipment, and maintain accurate records of findings.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to laboratory safety procedures and environmental standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry (Analytical or Inorganic preferred).
- Experience: 2–8 years of experience in a laboratory, preferably within a steel, metallurgical, or ferroalloy manufacturing company.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in wet chemical analysis and proficiency with analytical instrumentation (XRF, LECO).
