Job Description:
A Welder in a steel manufacturing company fabricates, joins, and repairs metal components and structures using specialized techniques (MIG, TIG, ARC) based on blueprints. Key duties include setting up equipment, cutting materials, inspecting welds for structural integrity, and adhering to strict safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabrication and Welding: Operate welding machinery (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) to weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Study engineering drawings, blueprints, and layouts to plan projects and ensure accurate measurements.
- Quality Inspection: Inspect welded joints and structures to identify flaws, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot welding tools, torches, and equipment.
- Metal Preparation: Cut, grind, and prepare metal surfaces for welding.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA and company safety procedures, including wearing protective gear, ensuring a safe work environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience as a welder in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MIG/TIG/ARC welding, metal fabrication techniques, and using power tools.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy materials (often over 50 lbs), stand for long periods, and work in varied positions.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
- Certification: Welding certification (e.g., AWS) is often required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated welding systems or robotics.
- Proficiency in reading 3D models.
