Job Description:
A Head Counselor leads the school's counseling department, developing strategic mental health and academic guidance programs while supervising staff. They provide direct counseling for complex student issues, manage crisis interventions, and collaborate with administration/parents, requiring a Master’s in Counseling, 3+ years' experience, and strong leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Administration: Create a strategic counseling plan, oversee the counseling team, manage the budget, and maintain student records.
- Student Support Services: Implement counseling services addressing academic, social-emotional, and career needs, including crisis intervention.
- Staff Mentorship: Appraise department members, provide professional development, and guide new counselors.
- Parent/Teacher Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders to support student well-being and resolve issues.
- Strategic Initiatives: Develop programs (e.g., antibullying, college readiness) and analyze data to adjust school support programs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of successful experience as a school counselor.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading a team or coordinating projects.
- Certification: Valid state counseling credentials or licensure.
- Skills: Strong communication, empathy, crisis management, and proficiency in school software (e.g., PowerSchool).
