Job Description:
An accountant manages an organization's financial records, ensuring accuracy in reporting, compliance with tax laws, and proper bookkeeping. Key duties include reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements (balance sheets, profit & loss), processing payroll, auditing, and providing financial analysis to support management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Recording: Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate, timely financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow reports.
- Tax Compliance:
Calculate, prepare, and file federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Budgeting & Analysis: Analyze financial data, monitor expenses, and develop forecasts and budgets for management.
- Auditing: Conduct internal audits to verify accuracy and ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Analytical Ability: Strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and ability to analyze complex financial data.
- Communication: Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification is often required or preferred.
