Job Description:
A Ferro Chemist in a steel/ferroalloy company analyzes raw materials (ore, coal, coke) and finished products (FeMn, SiMn, FeCr) to ensure quality standards. They use instruments like AAS, XRF, and spectrometers to test composition, monitor furnace processes, and generate technical reports, typically requiring a B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Analytical Testing: Conduct chemical analysis (carbon, sulfur, silicon, phosphorus) of raw materials (ore, coal), intermediate products, and finished ferroalloys.
- Quality Control: Ensure all materials meet industry and client specifications, reporting non-conforming materials.
- Instrumentation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), XRF spectrometers, and wet chemistry apparatus.
- Production Support: Monitor furnace processes and provide data for process optimization, such as improving slag formulation and maximizing yield.
- Reporting: Prepare daily testing, MIS reports, and manage laboratory documentation.
- Safety Adherence: Maintain, handle, and store chemicals safely while following 5S and GMP protocols.
Requirements:
- Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry or related field.
- Experience: Previous experience in a metallurgical laboratory or ferroalloy plant is generally preferred.
- Skills: Strong analytical reasoning, attention to detail, and proficiency with chemical instrumentation.
