Job Description:
An Assistant Store Manager (or Assistant Store In-charge) for a steel fabrication company is responsible for supporting the store manager in daily warehousing operations, focusing on the receipt, storage, and issuance of raw materials (plates, sheets, profiles) and finished fabrication goods. This role involves managing inventory accuracy, ensuring safety protocols, conducting physical stock checks, and liaising with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure smooth operational flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory & Stock Management: Responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, and issuance of materials, ensuring minimum disruption to production. Implementing FIFO (First In, First Out) methods for inventory control.
- Fabrication Logistics & Dispatch: Assisting in the timely dispatch of finished goods and managing materials sent out for sub-contracted jobs.
- Documentation & Reporting: Generating Material Received Reports (MRR), maintaining accurate records of inventory, and reporting discrepancies in SAP or other ERP systems.
- Operations & Safety: Organizing the storage area to optimize space and ensure compliance with safety standards (e.g., proper stacking, handling hazardous items).
- Team Supervision: Assisting the manager in training staff, managing shifts, and evaluating performance in the store area.
- Material Verification: Conducting regular physical stock audits to reconcile with system records (e.g., DAX/ERP) and reducing slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A Graduation degree (or similar) is usually preferred.
- Experience: Experience in store or warehouse management, particularly within the steel manufacturing, pressure vessel, or fabrication industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and ERP systems (such as SAP or DAX).
- Key Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, inventory control knowledge, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Ability: Ability to stand for long periods and, if necessary, assist with lifting/moving inventory items.
Common Qualifications/Experience:
- Industry Preference: Experience in shipyards, shipbuilding, or structural steel erection is often highly valued.
- Required Skills: Knowledge of fabrication materials (plates, flanges, rods) and consumables (grinding discs, Argon/Nitrogen).
