Job Description:
A Manager (Ferro) in a steel manufacturing plant oversees daily operations of Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF), focusing on production targets, safety, and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include managing raw materials, controlling tapping, optimizing furnace performance, maintaining machinery, and ensuring high-quality ferro-alloy output.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Oversee smelting operations, manage raw material inputs (ores, coal, scrap), and monitor tapping, electrode positioning, and daily production reports.
- Operational Efficiency: Optimize furnace performance to improve yield, manage power consumption, and minimize downtime, ensuring maximum equipment uptime.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, company policies) and environmental standards on the shop floor.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and manage maintenance engineers, technicians, and production staff to optimize shift performance.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Implement preventative and corrective maintenance schedules for furnaces and ancillary equipment, troubleshooting mechanical or electrical failures.
- Material Coordination: Manage inventory of critical spares and coordinate with supply chain for raw material handling.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Metallurgical preferred).
- Experience: 10+ years of experience, particularly in Ferro Alloys or heavy steel manufacturing environments.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of electric arc furnace operations, high-tension systems, PLC, and SCADA systems.
- Skills: Strong leadership, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
