DM PLANT OPERATOR FOR STEEL MANUFACTURING - RAIPUR , CHHATTISGARH
Job Description:
Responsible for the safe, efficient operation and monitoring of the De-Mineralization (DM) plant to ensure continuous supply of high-quality demineralized water for steel plant operations such as boilers, power plants, and process cooling systems.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operation
- Operate DM plant systems including cation, anion, and mixed bed ion exchange units
- Monitor water quality parameters such as pH, conductivity, TDS, silica, hardness, etc.
- Start-up and shut-down of DM plant equipment as per standard procedures
- Maintain continuous supply of DM water to boiler and process units
Chemical & Water Quality Control
- Handle chemical dosing (acid, caustic, regenerants) safely
- Ensure proper regeneration of ion exchange resins
- Collect and analyze water samples periodically
- Maintain water quality within specified industrial standards
Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance
- Monitor pumps, filters, valves, tanks, and instrumentation
- Report abnormalities, leaks, or equipment failures
- Assist maintenance team during breakdowns and preventive maintenance
Safety & Compliance
- Follow SOPs, safety standards, and environmental regulations
- Handle hazardous chemicals with proper PPE
- Maintain logbooks and operational records
Documentation
- Record plant readings (pressure, flow, conductivity, etc.)
- Maintain shift reports and log sheets
- Report deviations to supervisors or engineers
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of water treatment and ion exchange process
- Understanding of boiler water chemistry (advantage in steel plants)
- Ability to read instruments and control panels
- Safety awareness in handling chemicals (acid, caustic soda)
- Basic troubleshooting skills
Educational Qualification
- ITI (Fitter / Chemical / Mechanical / Electrician) OR
- Diploma in Chemical / Mechanical Engineering preferred
Experience
- 2+ years experience in DM plant / water treatment plant / power plant (preferred)
- Freshers may be considered in some integrated steel plants
