Job Description:
A Manager for a Coal Washery (often designated as Washery Head, General Manager, or Site Manager) is responsible for the overall operations, maintenance, production, and financial performance of a coal beneficiation plant. They ensure the raw coal is processed efficiently to meet specific quality standards (ash, moisture, size) for customers while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Production and Operations Management: Oversee daily washery, Coal Handling Plant (CHP), and Coal Prep Plant (CPP) operations to achieve production targets (quantity and quality).
- Maintenance Optimization: Ensure maximum plant uptime through rigorous preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Maintain coal quality standards, manage environmental compliance (waste disposal, pollution control), and comply with safety regulations (DGMS, Factories Act).
- Budgetary Control & Profitability: Prepare and manage operating (OPEX) and capital (CAPEX) budgets, manage inventory of spares, and optimize consumption of consumables.
- Team Leadership: Lead, train, and mentor operational staff, engineers, and technicians to improve productivity.
- Logistics & Commercial Coordination: Coordinate with mining teams for feed rate, and with railway/transporters for the dispatch of washed coal.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Generally 10–20+ years of experience in coal washing or coal handling plants (CHPP).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of coal washing techniques (gravity separation, jigging), plant machinery, and coal beneficiation technology.
- Key Skills: Strong leadership, cost consciousness, troubleshooting, and vendor management.
