Job Description:
An Assistant Foreman (CCS - Coal and Ash Handling System / Central Control System) in a power plant is a supervisory role responsible for leading crews in the operation, maintenance, and repair of coal handling plants, ash handling systems, or control room equipment. They ensure continuous, safe operation, oversee equipment repairs, and manage shift activities, typically reporting to a Foreman or Assistant Manager.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Operational Supervision: Supervises daily operations, including coal unloading, stacking, reclaiming, ash evacuation, and ensuring optimal operation of conveyors, pumps, and crushers.
- Maintenance Coordination: Develops and executes preventative maintenance programs, carries out minor repairs, and coordinates with maintenance teams for shutdowns.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforces safety rules, conducts pre-use inspections, and ensures compliance with environmental standards, including dust control plans.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Operates and monitors DCS or local panels to ensure smooth operation, identifying deviations or faults.
- Staff Management: Directs shift workers, trains employees on job descriptions/safety, and manages work schedules.
- Reporting: Generates daily Production/MIS reports, log reports, and maintains spare inventory.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: A diploma or National Craft Certificate (NCC) in mechanical, electrical, or power plant technology is typically required.
- Experience: Generally 3–7 years of experience in power plant operation, with at least 1–3 years in a supervisory role.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy equipment (conveyors, crushers), pneumatic/hydraulic systems, or PLC/SCADA systems, depending on whether the CCS role is focused on Coal handling or Control systems.
- Skills: Ability to lead a team, interpret operational data, and communicate effectively.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Ability to work in noisy environments and in all weather conditions.
- Requires standing/working in a plant environment for long periods, potentially working rotating shifts (e.g., 8-hour or 12-hour shifts).
