Job Description:
An architect in building construction manages the entire project lifecycle, from initial design concepts and client consultations to overseeing construction site activities and ensuring regulatory compliance. They produce detailed drawings (using CAD/BIM software), manage budgets, select materials, and collaborate with engineers and contractors to deliver safe, functional, and aesthetic structures.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Design and Planning: Developing architectural designs, feasibility studies, and detailed 3D models/blueprints.
- Documentation: Preparing technical documentation, construction documents, and specifications for contractors.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all designs meet local building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations (e.g., ADA, fire codes).
- Client Collaboration: Meeting with clients to define project goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Construction Administration: Conducting site visits to monitor progress, ensuring construction adheres to plans, and resolving design issues.
- Coordination: Liaising with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and consultants to integrate systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (B.Arch/M.Arch).
- Licensure: Professional architect license/registration in their jurisdiction.
- Software Proficiency: Expertise in CAD and BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and structural systems.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, project management, and creative problem-solving skills.
