Job Description:
An interior designer in building construction bridges aesthetics and technical execution by translating client goals into functional, safe, and code-compliant spaces. They create detailed technical drawings (CAD/BIM), specify materials, and coordinate with contractors during construction to ensure design intent. Key duties involve space planning, managing project timelines/budgets, and supervising on-site installations.
Key Responsibilities in Construction
- Design & Planning: Sketch preliminary designs and create detailed layouts, including electrical and partition plans.
- Documentation: Produce, read, and edit blue prints, elevations, and detailed specification books.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with building codes, ADA accessibility standards, and safety regulations.
- Site Supervision: Oversee construction, coordinating with general contractors and subcontractors to implement plans.
- Material Specification: Select and procure materials, lighting, fixtures, and furniture.
- Budget & Scheduling: Manage project costs and maintain the construction timeline.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Mastery of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD), 3D modeling (e.g., SketchUp, Revit/BIM), and Microsoft Office.
- Communication: Ability to work with architects, engineers, and construction crews.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively resolving site issues during construction.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture.
