Job Description:
An Assistant Environment Officer in a steel pipes manufacturing plant is responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing processes adhere to environmental regulations, statutory norms, and sustainability goals. They assist in monitoring pollution control equipment, managing waste, and implementing environmental policies to minimize the facility's environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Environmental Compliance & Monitoring: Monitor and maintain environmental standards in compliance with local pollution control board norms and statutory regulations.
- Waste & Pollution Management: Oversee the operation of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) and manage air emissions (e.g., wet scrubbers).
- Environmental Audits: Conduct routine inspections, environmental audits, and surveillance to identify potential hazards, such as soil contamination, and ensure that [air/water] parameters are within legal limits.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare weekly/monthly environmental reports for management and regulatory agencies regarding emissions, water usage, and waste disposal.
- Safety Coordination: Collaborate with the safety department to investigate environmental incidents, conduct safety audits, and implement corrective actions.
- ISO Compliance: Support the implementation of ISO 14001:2015 environmental management systems.
- Employee Training: Train staff at all levels on environmental responsibility, waste management, and emergency response procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related science field.
- Experience: Generally requires 3-5 years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment, preferably in steel or heavy manufacturing.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with statutory environmental legal requirements and pollution control equipment.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel for data management), and excellent communication skills.
