Job Description:
A Boiler Fitter in the industrial sector installs, repairs, and maintains high-pressure boilers, steam pipes, and related systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Key duties include fabricating, assembling, and repairing boiler shells, pressure vessels, and piping using welding, cutting, and grinding tools, alongside performing scheduled preventive maintenance and statutory inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Fabrication: Assembling components like steam drums, water tubes, safety valves, and pressure gauges according to blueprints and technical drawings.
- Maintenance & Repair: Performing routine inspections, cleaning vats, replacing defective parts, repairing steam pipes, valves, and water treatment systems.
- Shutdown/Breakdown Support: Executing emergency repairs, overhauling boiler components, and handling troubleshooting tasks to minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Ensuring all work complies with safety regulations, including hydrostatic tests, riveting, and sealing pressure vessel parts.
- Testing & Troubleshooting: Using diagnostic tools to identify leaks or defects, and inspecting finished products for structural integrity.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent, plus formal apprentice training or a certificate in mechanical/industrial fitting.
- Experience: Usually 3–5 years of experience as a Boilermaker, Pipe Fitter, or similar role in an industrial environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in MIG/TIG/Arc welding, pipe fitting, oxy-fuel cutting, and reading technical blueprints.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in confined spaces, crawl inside boilers, and handle heavy lifting.
- Knowledge: Understanding of steam systems, pressure systems, and water treatment processes.
