Job Description:
A Distributed Control System (DCS) Engineer in a power plant operates, monitors, and optimizes critical processes like boilers and turbines from a central control room. They ensure safe, efficient power generation by managing operational parameters, executing startup and shutdown sequences, and troubleshooting real-time system malfunctions. [1, 2]
Key Responsibilities
- Process Control & Optimization: Monitor parameters (steam pressure, temperature, flow, and fuel-to-air ratios) via Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) to maximize plant efficiency.
- System Operations: Execute controlled startup and shutdown procedures for boilers (e.g., AFBC, WHRB) and turbines according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Alarm & Trip Management: Respond to critical alarms, manage plant upsets, and take swift corrective actions to prevent equipment damage or shutdowns.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and fix issues with field instrumentation (e.g., flow meters, control valves, transmitters) in real-time, coordinating directly with field operators.
- Compliance & Safety: Enforce environmental, health, and safety (EHS) protocols, ensuring emissions and operational limits comply with regulatory standards.
- Data Recording: Maintain accurate shift logs, track equipment performance trends, and document malfunctions. [1, 2]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.E., B.Tech, or Diploma in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 3 to 8+ years of hands-on experience in thermal power plants, steel captive power plants, or process industries.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with DCS platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Yokogawa) and a strong understanding of PID loop tuning and control logic. [1, 2, 3]
