Job Description:
A Cement Plant Chemist ensures product quality by analyzing raw materials (limestone, clay), in-process materials (clinker, additives), and finished cement to meet physical and chemical standards. They operate XRF/XRD instruments, optimize mix proportions, and maintain ISO standards. They troubleshoot production issues to ensure strength, soundness, and setting time compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control: Sample and test raw materials, clinker, gypsum, and fly ash/slag to ensure adherence to standards (e.g., Bureau of Indian Standards).
- Lab Analysis: Conduct chemical analysis and physical testing (fineness, Blaine, soundness) using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) or conventional methods.
- Process Optimization: Monitor grinding and kiln burning parameters, adjusting mix proportions to achieve the desired quality.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate, real-time records of chemical analysis and prepare daily/monthly quality reports.
- Instrumentation: Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab equipment.
- Coordination: Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to address quality deviations.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience: Experience in cement manufacturing, lab techniques, and chemical testing.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in XRF, XRD, and physical testing instruments.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with ASTM, BIS, or other regulatory standards.
- Software: Proficiency in data management tools like Excel or LIMS.
