A Sales Engineer for industrial suppliers acts as the technical expert in the sales process, driving revenue by selling complex engineering products, machinery, or solutions to businesses (OEMs, consultants, factories). They bridge the gap between technical teams and customers, offering, demonstrating, and implementing customized solutions while managing the entire sales cycle. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Sales & Demos: Deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations explaining how industrial equipment, software, or machinery solves client problems.
  • Business Development: Identify new sales opportunities through market analysis, networking, and cold calling within assigned territories.
  • Proposal Engineering: Prepare detailed technical proposals, cost estimates, RFI/RFP responses, and commercial offers (e.g., ROI analysis).
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders like consultants and plant managers to secure repeat business.
  • Technical Consulting: Provide pre-sales and post-sales support, including site visits, technical trials, and troubleshooting to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor competitor activities, industry trends, and product requirements.
  • Negotiation & Closing: Negotiate contracts, pricing, and payment terms to meet sales quotas.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or relevant field).
  • Experience: 3-5+ years in technical sales, specifically selling industrial equipment or in B2B environments.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial processes, manufacturing equipment, or technical software.
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into client-friendly language.
  • Skills: Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce), MS Office, negotiation, and public speaking.

  • Revenue targets and gross profit forecasting.
  • Number of new customer acquisitions.
  • Success rate of proposals submitted.
