Job Description:
A hotel accountant oversees all financial operations of the property. They track daily revenue, manage accounts payable/receivable, process payroll, and prepare financial statements. This role is vital for ensuring profitability, controlling costs, and maintaining compliance with hospitality industry standards and tax laws. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Financial Operations: Reconcile daily food, beverage, and room revenues. Manage accounts payable (vendors, suppliers) and accounts receivable (guest billing, corporate accounts). [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Financial Reporting: Generate accurate and timely daily, weekly, and monthly financial statements (Profit & Loss, balance sheets) for executive management. [1, 2]
- Payroll Processing: Calculate wages, process payroll, and manage employee benefits, tips, and taxes. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist department heads in preparing annual operating budgets and provide monthly forecasts to track financial performance against targets. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Audits & Compliance: Conduct internal audits, ensure compliance with the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI), and liaise with external auditors. [1, 2, 3]
- Cash Flow & Inventory: Monitor cash flow, control petty cash, handle bank deposits, and manage inventory valuations. [1, 2, 3]
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Experience: Minimum 2 to 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within the hospitality or hotel management sector.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in hotel Property Management Systems (PMS), Point-of-Sale (POS) integration, and advanced accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Tally).
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to track KPIs like Occupancy Rate, RevPAR, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
