Job Description:
An Assistant Manager in steel manufacturing bridges the gap between senior management and shop-floor operations. They supervise daily production, enforce strict safety and quality controls, and optimize equipment efficiency. Responsibilities include shift management, resource allocation, and troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities
- Production Execution: Plan and direct daily activities across the Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Blast Furnace (BF), or Rolling Mills to meet target output and steel grade specifications. [1, 2]
- Quality Control: Monitor chemical composition and mechanical properties to minimize product defects and adhere to strict quality standards. [1]
- Operational Efficiency: Track KPIs (yield, equipment utilization, energy usage), minimize downtime, and oversee raw material consumption (iron ore, coal, dolomite). [1]
- Maintenance Coordination: Work with mechanical and electrical teams to plan preventive and breakdown maintenance, and schedule plant shutdowns.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce occupational health and safety protocols and ensure the plant complies with environmental and statutory regulations. [1]
- Team Leadership: Manage shift engineers, technicians, and contract laborers, providing training and assigning tasks. [1]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 5 to 10 years of operational experience in a steel manufacturing plant (e.g., DRI/Sponge Iron, Blast Furnace, or EAF).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of reduction reactions, kiln thermodynamics, furnace operations, and heat treatment.
- Tools: Familiarity with ERP/SAP systems (PP/MM modules), SCADA, PLC automation, and MS Excel. [1, 2, 3]
