Job Description:
A Rolling Mill Supervisor manages shift operations to safely and efficiently produce quality steel products . They lead shift crews, monitor mill processes (like temperature and speed), enforce safety regulations, and coordinate with maintenance and quality control teams to minimize waste and meet production targets. Key Responsibilities
- Production Execution: Manage daily shift operations to ensure targets are met for steel output, dimensions, and grades. [1, 2]
- Quality Control: Conduct routine checks on rolled products (e.g., TMT bars, coils) to prevent surface defects, ensure dimensional accuracy, and adhere to industry standards. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Safety Enforcement: Enforce strict OSHA and plant-specific safety protocols, ensuring the use of PPE and conducting hazard inspections. [1, 2, 3]
- Equipment Monitoring: Oversee machinery performance, monitor operating parameters (tension, speed, roll temperatures), and direct roll changes or setups . [1]
- Team Leadership: Manage shift crews, provide training, assign daily tasks, and handle shift handovers. [1]
- Maintenance Coordination: Work with maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns and execute preventive maintenance schedules. [1]
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain production logs, log downtime, track raw material yields, and prepare shift performance reports using MS Excel or ERP systems. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 3 to 10+ years in steel manufacturing, with hands-on experience in hot or cold rolling mills.
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability, blueprint reading, and failure analysis.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional team management, conflict resolution, and the ability to work rotational day/night shifts. [1, 2, 3, 4]
