Job Description:
The Engineer / Technician for Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) in a power plant ensures maximum availability, reliability, and safety of plant operations. They execute preventive and breakdown maintenance, troubleshoot HT/LT electrical systems, calibrate field instruments, and maintain control systems like DCS and PLC. 
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Electrical Systems & Equipment
  • Maintain HT/LT motors, transformers, switchgears, and PMCC/MCC panels.
  • Troubleshoot plant lighting, DC battery banks, and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
  • Execute circuit breaker testing, insulation resistance checks, and earth pit testing.
  • Monitor and maintain Diesel Generator (DG) sets, recording key electrical parameters. 
2. Instrumentation & Control Systems
  • Calibrate, service, and troubleshoot field instruments (pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters).
  • Maintain control valves, motorized actuators, and pneumatic systems.
  • Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). 
3. Safety, Compliance & Operations
  • Follow rigid electrical safety codes and plant protocols, strictly executing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Permit to Work (PTW) procedures.
  • Respond rapidly to emergency breakdown calls to restore plant operations.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures to improve overall plant reliability. 
4. Documentation & Maintenance Planning 
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and P&IDs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including calibration reports, maintenance checklists, and spare parts inventory logs.
  • Support plant shutdowns and project-related electrical/instrumentation installations. 

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education:
    • For Technician/Electrician: ITI or Diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering.
    • For Engineer: Diploma, B.E., or B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering. 
  • Experience: Typically ranging from 2 to 5years for junior roles, and 5 to 10+ years for senior/supervisory roles in thermal, gas, or renewable power plants. 
  • Certifications: A valid Electrical Supervisor or Wireman License is preferred. 
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with multimeters, loop testers, and calibrators.
